Happy New Year!  It is hard to believe we are halfway through the school year and what a great year it has been so far!

We are blessed to be able to start every morning in prayer and Bible study!  We have learned so much this year about God’s plan for us starting with God’s call on Abraham and continuing through the life of Moses and the exodus of God’s people out of Egypt to the coming Messiah . The children enjoyed sharing the good news of Christ by participating in the live nativity scene and caroling in the neighborhood.  I am also very proud of everyone as they recited Luke 2 for the Christmas program!

In social studies, we began our year with a study of the pirates of North Carolina and enjoyed the hands on pirate exhibit at the Cape Fear Museum.  We also had our own “Pirate Day” as we dressed like pirates and even “captured” some other classes as well as the governor!  (Mr. Smith, thanks for being a good sport!)  Check out our pictures!  Fourth graders have also been studying the history of the U.S.  and the students made some great models of Indian dwellings in Nov.  We are now focusing on a study of the states.  Fifth graders have been focused on the Middle East and are presently traveling through Asia.

Science is another favorite subject and everyone loves the experiments in the classroom and the programs at the museum.  Fourth graders especially liked building circuits and fifth graders did a fantastic job on their biome projects!  We are now learning about water and oceans in fourth grade and ecosystems in fifth.

We have also been working very hard in math and have already made strides in long division in fourth grade.  Fifth graders have been working with decimals. We will continue to build on this and we will all be working with fractions and geometry soon!

We look forward to the rest of the year with much to learn and do!  Please remember to pray for us and thank you parents for all your support!
